Dayan and Radika - outstanding sportsman and sportswoman
Dayan Ranasinghe - a final year student of the Faculty of Arts, was
named Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year and Radika Jayasundera of
the Faculty of Science was picked as the Most Outstanding Sportswoman at
the Colours Awards Ceremony of the University of Colombo held at the
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Exhibition Centre recently.
The event was colourful and it was held outside the premises of the
University after more than two decades.
Around 250 sportsmen and sportswomen received colours from the
University of Colombo. Dayan Ranasinghe was the vice-captain of the
senior national waterpolo squad which participated at the Asia Pacific
Waterpolo Championships in Hong Kong in 2005 and he is also a member of
the University of Ceylon swimming and rugby football teams.
Radika Jayasundera represented Sri Lanka in swimming at the World
University Games in Turkey in 2005.
She is the captain of the women's team at the Colombo University and
she holds the Sri Lanka University record in the 200 metres freestyle
event.
Then award for the best all-round cricketer was Ruwan Herath of the
Faculty of Science together with S. A. Harsha of the Faculty of Arts
while D. G. O. Chathurangi of the Institute of Indigenous Medicine
received most number of colours awards. |
