The Rural Industries Development Ministry has planned for the
implementation of 50 industrial projects in the Ratnapura district, at
village level to uplift rural home industries and self employment
opportunities, the Rural Industries Development Minister Premalal
Jayasekara said.
Addressing a media briefing at Samurdhi-Hall, New Town, Ratnapura,
last week revealed about the development plans and projects awaiting
implementation under the "Rural Industries Development package".
Already several major projects have been undertaken covering
Nivitigala, Elapatha, Kuruwita, Kalawana, Ayagama and Godakawela at a
cost of Rs. 15 million according to records. All facilities including
roadways, community centres for the villagers, equipment needed in the
particular trade and occupational training to the 'novices' entering an
industry with financial assistance, would be provided by the R.I.D.
Ministry resources.
Those already in the field, in their own homes would be encouraged to
become members of 'Common Service Centres', provided by the Ministry,
leading them gradually to mass produce their 'articles' (wares), with
state assistance with the 'export-market', being the final target.
Among the selected projects, 'Kitul' and 'Mushroom' which needed the
natural environment conditions for production, have been assisted by the
provision of improved equipment, for about 250 beneficiaries in villages
in Eheliyagoda, Kalawana, Ayagama and Nivitigala with success,
Industries Ministry Project Director Aruna Gunawardena said. |
