Excessive generation: CEB incurs Rs. 45 m loss per day
The Ceylon Electricity Board incurred a loss of
Rs. 30 billion last year. The loss per day to the CEB is Rs. 45
million. This is because the need for power is rapidly increasing
and this year it has exceeded the normal requirement aggravating the
crisis.

The government last week banned the export of
steel debris for six months to give a boost to the casting industry

Minister confident of $ 1,000m FDI target this year
Minister of Investment Promotion Rohita
Bogollagama said that the FDI received by the country during the
first four months of this year exceeds US$ 300 million apart from
investments on power projects. The investment on power projects is
around another US$450 million and he was confident of achieving the
US$ 1,000 million FDI target this year.
