Final netball trial May 29

The final netball trial to pick the 12-member Sri Lanka team to
participate at the Asian Junior Netball Championships will be held on
May 29 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Ms. Rio Ramlan, the Assistant Secretary, Netball Federation of Sri
Lanka (NFSL) said that 17 players in the training pool will face the
trial and the selectors of the NFSL will be present the whole day.
Ramlan added that the Asian Junior Netball Championships will be held in
Bangalore from July 24 to 30. The 17 poolists are training under Junior
National coach Thilaka Jinadasa assisted by Deepthi Alwis.
Ramlan added that netballers from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore,
Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Maldives and Nepal will vie for championship
honours. At the last championships held in 2004 in Colombo, Malaysia
emerged champions and Sri Lanka were runners-up.
She also said that once the 12 players are selected, the NFSL will
meet to select a manager, delegate, and an umpire to make the trip.
The championship will be hosted by Bangalore Netball Association and
conducted by the All-India Netball Federation with the guidance of the
Asian Netball Federation.
