Hilfswerk Austria awarded three scholarships to students of the Sri
Lanka Institute of Hotel Management (SLITHM) to follow a nine-month
Teacher Training program in Austria.
The students who will leave for Austria in September will be attached
to one of the best institutes - the Institute of Tourism and Hotel
Management (ITH), Salzburg.
Once they complete the training they will be attached to the SLITHM
as Assistant Lecturers.
This is the second year Hilfswerk has offered scholarships to train
lecturers in Austria. Hilfswerk Country Manager David Mangala said "our
focus in this tourism program is to build capacity in the tourism
educational sector." We have also initiated the re-structuring of the
old hotel school curriculum of five years to a three-year diploma course
with the cooperation of ITH and SLITHM.
Principal of SLITHM Kamal Hapuwatta said that ITH is assisting them
to develop the curriculum to cater to the needs of the vibrant and fast
developing sector in the world, tourism. SLITHM also launched a
three-year hospitality development program in February. Hilfswerk
Austria is an International non governmental organisation. |
