Academics in agriculture from Thailand, India and Malaysia will share
their knowledge and experience in growing, marketing and processing
fruits and vegetable for export at a seminar to be held at Waters Edge,
Battaramulla on June 15 at 8.30 am.
The seminar will be organised by the Sri Lanka Fruit and Vegetable
Producers, Processors and Exporters Association (SLFVPPEA) in
collaboration with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board.
SLFVPPEA Member Dilshan Fernando told a press briefing in Colombo on
Friday that the main objective of holding such a seminar for the first
time in Sri Lanka is to educate Sri Lankans on the latest technology to
uplift the fruit and vegetable industry,".
He said the seminar will also help the participants to improve the
Lankan vegetable and fruit exports sector which has become a lucrative
foreign exchange earner today.
"Ten years ago Sri Lanka exported only 15 varieties of vegetables and
at present more than 90 varieties are exported and the country earns a
huge foreign exchange annually," he added. |
