Assassins pose as insurance agents
Some of the accomplices of the assassins of Foreign Minister Lakshman
Kadirgamar have posed as agents of a leading insurance agency,
investigations have revealed.
Two accomplices of the killers of the Foreign Minister had been
issued with identity cards by a leading insurance company, an
investigator told the Sunday Observer.
The men had surveyed the area surrounding the private and official
residences of the former Foreign Minister and their identity cards,
understandably provided a easy movement through the security check
points. Sources said the absence of scrutiny before recruiting insurance
agents as well as sales agents by companies have been exploited by the
Tigers when carrying out covert missions in Colombo.
"This is a growing threat and we have told companies to be
extra-vigilant when they recruit people and issue identification
documents," said the officer. However, according to the investigators,
most of the key suspects of the crime had already fled to the Wanni. |
