Explosion off Negombo seas: LTTE targets vessel carrying
choppers
Military officials investigating yesterday's
incident near Negombo believe that three suspects who were caught
after an explosion in the seas off Bopitiya were on a mission to
target a vessel transporting two MI 17 helicopters.

30 LTTE terrorists, six sailors killed in Pesalai
Over thirty LTTE cadres were believed to be
killed in an abortive attack on a Navy sub detachment in Pesalai,
Mannar yesterday morning. Six sailors were also killed in the
confrontation.

Security tightened in city and suburbs
The Government yesterday beefed-up security in
the Colombo city and suburbs to avert possible LTTE attacks on
civilian targets. Defence Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwelle told the
Sunday Observer that more intense operations are being conducted in
Colombo and the suburbs to track LTTE operatives and explosives.
