Prompt action taken by the Fisherfolk at Pamunugama by giving tip-off on emergency No. 119 had prevented a major catastrophe in Negombo yesterday. The President has said these civilians will be given special awards for their acts of vigilance.

IGP Chandra Fernando said at a media briefing held at Gramodaya centre yesterday that the strategy of the LTTE Sea Tigers was to sow magnetic sea mines to blow up naval patrols. He said initial investigations have revealed that a sea mines weighing 35 kilos have been brought to Wennappuwa for the first time by the Sea Tigers.

Military suspects that the terrorists were in a mission possibly targeting a vessel carrying choppers to Colombo.
