Medicoes ready to face any situation

The Health Ministry has despatched a large stock of surgical consumables and medicine to hospitals in the LTTE threatened areas to handle emergency situations, Director General Health Services Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage told the Sunday Observer.

A part of the consignment of surgical items has been despatched by helicopters and the balance by land. These surgical items have been sent to District hospitals, base and general hospitals in the needy areas, he added.

The General hospitals with theatre facilities such as Anuradhapura, Ampara, Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya and Batticoloa have been provided with all facilities to handle any emergency situation.

Teaching Hospitals in Jaffna, Kandy, Badulla, Kurunegala, Ragama, Kalubowila, Karapitiya and the Colombo National Hospitals are also ready to handle any emergency situation, he said. Additional staff, supporting staff and laboratory facilities have been provided to meet any situation, he noted.
