The LTTE must stop the genocide!

LTTE Leader Prabhakaran from policy declaration of 1 April, 1990:

"For nearly an year we have been involved in peace talks with the government of Sri Lanka. I am very pleased to note that the talks have been cordial, constructive and have progressed on the basis of mutual trust and understanding. As a direct consequence of these talks there is peace and normality.

I should say that the courageous and radical approach enunciated by President Premadasa has resulted in the present climate of peace andreconciliation. We sincerely desire that the present atmosphere of peaceshould continue and that our people should live a life of freedom, dignity and security."

Why did war break out?

Because 1. The peace that Prabhakaran spoke of in his policy speech, began to usher in favourable conditions for holding elections for the North-East Provincial Council established for the Tamil People under the Indo-Lanka Peace Accord.

2. The Sri Lanka Government began discussion with other Tamil groups too, seeking their views on the holding of elections.

3. The LTTE did not want elections because, having associated themselves throughout, with only the GUN and not with politics, the people feared them and would not vote them in.

4. While talking peace with Sri Lanka Government, the LTTE was secretly constructing Bunker bases in the jungles and bunker complexes in the villages and towns, and preparing for war.

On 11th June 1990, the LTTE kidnapped over 600 policemen, killed many soldiers and declared war.

Genocide by LTTE

Since 1975, the LTTE Tigers have been mercilessly murdering their countrymen.

* On 27 July 75, Jaffna Mayor Alfred Duriappah was assassinated in a HINDU Temple because he had become an obstacle to the Tigers' craving for power.

* 17 April 87 - LTTE leader PULENDRAN led a brutal massacre of 127 bus travellers, including pregnant women and children, at Kithulutuwa, Trincomalee.

* 7 July 87 - LTTE Tigers murdered in cold blood, 34 Buddhist Monks at ARANTALAWA. The CHIEF PRIEST was hacked to death while he pleaded for the lives of the other monks.

* The Tigers murdered AMIRTHALINGAM, SRI SABARATNAM, UMA MAHESWERAN and PADMANABAH - all leaders of other TAMIL groups.

* 3 August 90- Tigers massacred 140 Tamil speaking MUSLIMS, including children, while they prayed in their Mosques, in Batticaloa.

* 10 August 90-LTTE massacred 127 innocent villagers, including women and children while they slept in their huts at Eravur.

In July 1987 the Indo - Lanka Peace Accord was signed. The Accord provided for the North-East provincial council for the Tamil people. The LTTE Tigers have always rejected elections. They disrupted the Provincial Council elections, the Presidential elections and the General Elections in Sri Lanka. The Tigers refused to contest in the North - East Provincial Council elections, and instead began a war against the Indian Peace keeping Force.

* Rajiv Gandhi said that if he became Prime Minister again, he will like to see the Indo-Lanka Peace Accord implemented.

"We are not a hostile force to the Indian government or to the Indian people.

We opposed the misguided policies of a former Indian administration(Rajiv Gandhi) and resisted the military intervention. We do not want the government of India to interfere, politically or military , in our problems." - LTTE leader Prabhakaran in his policy declaration on 1 April 1990.
