Pakistan donates ICU to Zia hospital
The Pakistan Government has donated a fully equipped, modern
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to the Zia hospital at Akurana. The ICU was
inaugurated by the High Commissioner of Pakistan Bashir Wali Mohmand.
The project is part of the Pakistan Government's continuing efforts
to provide assistance to the people of Sri Lanka in the health,
education and social sector projects. The construction and establishment
of the ICU has cost Rs.15 million. With the addition of a full fledged
Intensive Care Unit, the Zia Hospital is now well-equipped to handle the
most emergency cases.
The High Commissioner also opened a computer centre and the 'Faiszer
Musthapha Vocational Training Centre' in the city. Pakistan has also
provided equipment for both these projects.
The High Commissioner said Sri Lanka is a very good friend of
Pakistan and always helped us whenever we were in need. Our economy is
growing rapidly and we are in a position to divert more resources to
social sector development.
It is the aim of our government that basic amenities such as
education and health should be available to all people. We respect Sri
Lanka's sovereignity and wish that their domestic issues would be
resolved peacefully, he said. |
