India to assist evacuating Lankans in Lebanon

As a gesture of abiding friendship between India and Sri Lanka, the Government of India is assisting in evacuating 300 Sri Lankan workers from war torn Lebanon, Indian High Commission said in a media statement.

The 300 Sri Lankan workers were evacuated to Cyprus by the Indian Naval Ship INS-Betwa, yesterday. today they will travel to India by a special Air India flight. Government of Sri Lanka has made arrangements for their onward journey from India to Sri Lanka.

This evacuation was carried out at the request and in consultation with the Government of Sri Lanka. Last week Government of India provided assistance in the evacuation of 100 Sri Lankan workers from Lebanon.
