John Keells Warehouse awarded ISO 22000:2005 certification

John Keells Warehousing, Asia's largest tea warehouse, has been awarded ISO 22000: 2005 Food Safety Management System certification, becoming the first tea warehouse in Sri Lanka to obtain this certification. The certification was issued by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute on July 31 enabling teas stored at the warehouse to gain a valuable competitive advantage in the international market.

Many countries that consume Ceylon Tea require imports to comply with international food factory hygiene standards throughout the supply chain. John Keells Warehousing thus upgraded it warehouse to meet global tea warehousing standards, thereby benefiting its clients and the end-consumer.

The ISO 22000:2005 certification is granted to companies that demonstrate their ability to control food safety hazards to ensure that the food is safe at the time of human consumption. It specifies the requirements for operating and maintaining a food safety management system within the warehouse and for compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory food safety requirements.
