Bandarawela for a cool vacation
Over 100 years ago, Bandarawela was a small village on the verge of
prosperity brought in by the opening of tea plantations and the
inauguration of railways.
Bandarawela is now surrounded by beautiful tea plantations,
waterfalls, and mist-clad mountains. The town is also a popular
stop-over for tourists travelling to Badulla on the Colombo-Badulla
highway.
A major development has taken place at Bandarawela, and the number of
tourists visiting Bandarawela has increased tremendously.
During the recent past a number of tourist hotels have been built to
cater to the inflow of tourists, both foreign and local to Bandarawela
which has all potentials for a cool vacation.
Bandarawela Holiday Home, built on Senanayaka Mawatha, within close
proximity to the town, overlooking lush tea estates, hill country and
beautiful waterfalls is the property of the Young Women's Christian
Association (YWCA).
The holiday home was taken over by one of Sri Lanka's leading
hoteliers, S. Jeganathan, an Associate member of the Ceylon Hotel
School.
A major refurbishment done by Jaganathan has converted the home to a
star class property offering modern facilities at affordable prices. It
has now become an ideal location for a pleasant holiday in the cool
climes of Bandarawella. The panoramic view of the Bandarawela town, the
railway station and the lit up hill country, at night are breathtaking.
The restaurant offers an 'A-la-carte' menu comprising both Western
and Eastern, along with spicy Sri Lankan cuisine.
The location is ideal for in-house seminars workshops, honeymooners
and company picnics. It offers guests tours to Horton Plains, Hakgala
Botanical garden, visits to tea estates, historic Buddhist temples and
other places of tourist attraction is close proximity to the home.
