Renuka coconut products for local market
The Renuka Group, one of Sri Lanka's well known established
organisations whose core businesses are manufacturing and exporting of
agricultural products ventured into the local market by launching a
range of plantation fresh coconut products.
The products which are free of artificial preservatives and
colourings include coconut milk powder in 300 gram and 150 gram packs,
canned liquid coconut milk and desiccated coconut in 150 gram packs.
Head of Local Retail Renuka Group Hemal Dias said that until today
their products made to international standards were only available on
the shelves of well known supermarkets around the globe and since it had
a very high demand internationally we thought of launching it locally
for the benefit of our customers.
He said that since it is free of artificial preservatives and
colourings it promotes healthy living among customers. The company will
contribute Re 1 from each pack of Renuka coconut milk powder to the
cultivation of coconut. The rationale is to plough back profits to
protect the industry.
Director, Marketing Renuka Group Shamindra Rajiyah said that Sri
Lanka produces 2,500 million coconuts per year and 70% is consumed by
the domestic sector of which the waste is as high as 40%. He said
purchasing Renuka coconut milk powder is not only convenient and
economical but it also stops the huge wastage that takes place in the
country. He said that a developing country like ours cannot afford to
waste so much resources.
All Renuka plantations, outgrower farms, primary processing centres
and the state of the art production facilities have received HACCP, ISO
22000 certification in addition to organic certification and Halal.
The company practises the highest quality measures during each stage
of production from the plantation to the final product be it coconuts,
fruits or spices.
