Final stages of Schools Games

The third and final stage of the National School Games-athletic events with over 3,000 athletes in the fray will be held on September 28, 29, 30 and October 1, at the Sugathadasa Stadium. The games are conducted by the Ministry of Education (Sports Department).

Altogether 128 events in the four age categories under-15, under-17, under-19 and under-21 in both boys and girls will be worked off at the four day meet.

The colourful opening ceremony with over 4,000 schoolboys and girls participating will perform cultural displays on September 28 commencing at 9 a. m. The closing ceremony is on October 1 at 3.00 p. m. The defending champions, Western Province, is expected to give repeat performances to retain the overall championship title, but athletes from Central Province and Southern Province are expected offer stiff opposition to the favourites.
