Hip and contemporary

Phase 3 - L-R - Revel, Trevin, Rasmar, Debbie, Royle and Tilak.

The only band at present in our music scene to have a full percussion section is Phase 3 a familiar sight on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the Hilton Colombo. If you enjoy the sizzling Latin sounds of the cymbals, or the exciting swish of the shekere and tuita or the throbbing of the congas then make a date with Phase 3 whose vast repertoire includes cuban and bossa nova tunes to the 60s and 80s favourites to contemporary pop hits with a Latin influence.

A much sought after band Phase 3, according to their leader percussionist Rasmar Lye, are reluctantly compelled to refuse other engagements because of their regular commitments at leading hotels.

When Phase 3 is not playing at the Colombo Hilton in the weekend, they are entertaining audiences on Mondays at the Tea Lounge at Cinnamon Grand while on Thursdays they zip it up at Ceylon Continental's Heist Bar.

However fans of Phase 3 will be happy to know that this New Year's Eve the band will be at the Il Ponte at the Hilton to help you greet 2007 into your life. "We were offered two overseas venues for New Year's Eve but we decided to stay put at the Hilton due to requests from our regular patrons," comments Rasmar Lye, who is happy with the vibes and expertise of his versatile set of musicians.

There's Debbie Waldner - keyboardist and vocalist who needs no introduction actually because she has wowed her audiences ever since she started her music career when she turned a teenager.

Trevin Joseph, the vocalist with a reggae slant has been working with Debbie for quite sometime before Phase 3 came into existence. Royle de Andrews with long years of experience behind him sits at the drum stool, gives that added thrust to the band and chips in on harmony.

Bassist Tilak Dias is well-known for his fast fretwork and throbbing bass lines, and one of Sri Lanka's leading guitarist Revel Crake complements the Latin rhythms with his acknowledged artistry.

So if it's music with a perfect sound balance and volume control, that you are looking for - the answer is Phase 3.
