Swarna Sarani - a worthy fund raiser

After thirty three years as a guitarist, music director and
performing artist, Upali Kannangara will stage his own musical show
Swarna Sarani at the BMICH on Sunday December 10. The event will also
see the launch of his latest CD Randoli. This is his second album and
contains sixteen tracks, the music is played by an orchestra conducted
by Ernest Soysa, who will also be responsible for the music at the
concert.
Other artistes who will grace the occasion are Samitha, Nirosha
Virajini, Champa Kalahari, Indrani Perera, Dilki Weliwita, Chandra Kumar
Kandanarachchi, Keerthi Pasquel, Nuwan Gunawardena, Bathiya 'N Santush
and Athula Sri Gamage. The Kekirawa Branch of the Cultural Ministry will
provide colourful and spectacular folk dance items.
The musical show has been arranged by Upali Kannangara in memory of
the victims of the recent Kebithigollewa tragedy and all proceeds will
go towards a Montessori school for the affected children. For the moment
books and other equipment will be provided and Upali Kannangara is
confident of your worthy support to make his show a success. At the
outset of his career, Upali Kannangara joined the Super Star Band in
1974 with Ernest Soysa, then moved over to the Super Fortunes with
Keerthi Pasquel and Ernest Soysa before he branched off on music
direction.
