Water consumers in for rude shock!

The residents of Nuwara Eliya were taken by surprise when they received their water bills for the month of January this year from the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council. The water bills have gone up by four folds, they claim.

The sudden rise have been done without any notice to the rate payers. However, at the last monthly meeting of the council, Mayor Chandralal Karunaratne mentioned that the water bills will be reviewed and even the members of the council will be notified of the future water tariff rates.

The Mayor had at that time observed that in all other Municipal Councils areas water rates have gone up by many folds, in keeping with the directions of the water supply and Drainage Department, and that due notice will be given both to the members of the council, and well as to the rate payers and the residents.
