TN police takes head count of Lankan Tamils

The Tamil Nadu police has launched an operation to take a head count of Sri Lankan Tamils living in the State, reports from Chennai said.

The operation began throughout Tamil Nadu on Friday with a large number of policemen going from door to door in search of Lankan Tamils who are domiciled in Tamil Nadu, sources said. In the past two decades a large number of Lankan Tamils had established themselves commercially as well as academically in Tamil Nadu by setting up business establishments and engaging professionally in various jobs.

The scrutinising of Lankan Tamils by the Tamil Nadu State Government began with several arrests being made in the state recently in connection with the LTTE's covert activities. Several raids were carried out by Tamil Nadu policemen in various parts of Tamil Nadu with the seizure of arms and ammunition to be smuggled to the LTTE.
