Forces overrun three Tiger camps

The security forces yesterday overran three Tiger camps in Kumburupiddi and seized a large cache of weapons.

"During the past 72 hours the Army supported by artillery and mortars fire successfully neutralized the LTTE build up, including three LTTE bases in the Kumburupiddi jungles," the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said in a statement.

The troops recovered a large number of claymore mines, anti-personnel mines, RPGs,RPG bombs,81 mm base plates, generators, T 56 assault rifles,60 mm mortars, disposable RPGs, motor cycles and large quantities of ammunition.

By last evening, troops were continuing their search and clearing operations and consolidating their positions.

The MCNS said the LTTE cadres had withdrawn further into the north of Trincomalee to avoid a confrontation.
