Sri Lanka Telecom incorporates SLT Hong Kong

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), inaugurated the services of its subsidiary SLT Hong Kong Limited.

Chairman of SLT and SLT Hong Kong Asoka Weerasinghe De Silva said it was a significant milestone in Sri Lanka's communication history." He said it was "equally important to Hong Kong region as far as access to Indian sub continent is concerned."

With as ambitious plan to become a global IP solution provider, SLT has already got the blueprint in global business expansion by expanding the current network to USA, China and East Asia.

Hong Kong is the major gateway to connect mainland China with the rest of the world and therefore, SLT Hong Kong is the premier point for SLT to expand its business to the booming China market. Also, SLT is fully geared to establish more global POPs and overseas subsidiaries to serve the global market needs. The next POPs will be opened in USA in Q4 2007, Singapore in Q2 2008, and United Kingdom in Q4, 2008.

Chief Executive Officer of SLT, Shoji Takahashi said "By incorporating SLT Hong Kong, the company becomes a telecom facilitator in the Asia region. This is a giant step forward by the company in venturing into global operations.

Having such a vital point of presence in the major telecommunications hub in South East Asia, we are proud to connect the rest of the world through our wholly owned SMW3 and SMW4 undersea optical fibre cable system and partnership with reliable global players such as NTT Com Asia, PCCW and IDT.

"This initiative, will be well supported by SLT's bilateral cables such as Bharat-Lanka and Dhiraagu-SLT with India and Maldives," he said.
