Ministry to appoint 3,076 teachers to remote schools

The Ministry of Education will appoint 3,076 new teachers to remote
schools in the Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura Districts, Minister of
Education Susil Premajayantha told the Sunday Observer.
Among the new appointees are 1,200 graduate teachers, 386 science
teachers and 1,490 Assistant Teachers. Of the science teachers 175
teachers have been posted to schools in the Polonnaruwa district and 211
teachers to schools in the Anuradhapura district.
Four-hundred-and-eighty-six Assistant Teachers have also been posted to
schools in the Polonnaruwa district and 1,010 Assistant Teachers to
schools in the Anuradhapura district. Graduate teachers will also be
appointed to fill the existing vacancies of graduate teachers in the two
districts, the Minister said.
The teachers will have to serve in the particular school named by the
ministry for eight years.
The shortage of teachers in the North Western Province will be
overcome by these teachers and the unemployment problem of graduates in
the province will also be solved.
The Assistant Teachers will be paid a monthly salary of Rs. 3,000 and
within five years they must complete either an external graduation
course or a diploma course. The Assistant Teachers will be absorbed into
the teachers service only after completion of these courses. School
principals will not be permitted to employ volunteer teachers in future.
