Agra - high profile restaurant

Take a trip to Agra - the latest restaurant which was launched with a three-day event recently. The opening night was a red carpet colourful statement, a page taken from the cultural history of North India.

At the entrance in the garden glamorously decorated marquee with beautiful girls inside the booths, dressed as fortune tellers and sitar players created the festive atmosphere. The incense of joss sticks, the fragrance of the jasmine and the specially selected Bollywood music and Bhangra on the large video screen kept the guests' toes-a-tapping.

The colourful lighting, the cloth lanterns that clung to the large tree at the entrance all added to the feeling of romance and excitement. The six Sri Lankan drummers with time signature drumming escorted the guests into the restaurant and what awaited you behind the closed door was sophistication in colour. The decor was an oriental fusion of burnt orange and mustard yellow combined with black, yellow and white.

The music was contemporary fusion from the young and talented Cross Culture - guys who performed the hottest trend in music. A pond in the centre of the hall saw models in Bollywood dress draped on the white platform panels of the pond before the twinkling tiny lit brass lamps took over to add to the creative atmosphere.

Inspired by the Moghul Empire in architecture, this high-profile restaurant has been a hidden passion of Shanika Somasunderam, Mohamed Nazeer and Raj Sriskantha. With its white trellis arches in the dining area on the extreme right and left of the main hall, a bar at the end of the wall, Agra fulfills a long felt need for cuisine connoisseurs to dine on tantalising and exotic North Indian cuisine prepared by special chefs flown down from India.

The menu spread does justice to the tag line 'Exquisite Indian Cuisine' with its varieties of North Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The traditional favourites are all there Aloo Gobhi, Exotic Korma, Garlic Naan, Paya Shorba, Peshawari Kebabs, Kabuli Channa among others. A private garden for private functions with a kebab station and a VIP room if required. Uniquely classy, Agra is all set to add sparkle to your evening of entertainment.
