The 21st World Scout
Jamboree of the World Organisation of Scouts hosted by the United
Kingdom Scout Association, will be held at Gilwell Park, London, England
from July 27 to August 8.

World Scout Bureau to celebrate the founding of Scouting by
Robert Baden-Powell, 100 years ago in 1907 at Brownsea Island, England.
According to National Training Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout
Movement, Shantha K. M. Madurawe, 40,000 Scouts from 155 countries will
be participating at this Jamboree.
The Sri Lankan contingent comprises 136 Scouts from all the Scout
Districts of Sri Lanka. The Jamboree's theme is 'One World - One
Promise'. "The meaning of the Jamboree is togetherness, so we need to
bring all the countries together and make them as one.
"We live in One World and we have all made One Promise to help
improve it. The Global Development Zones help Scouts to understand more
about the challenges and opportunities facing our world, through
practical workshops and activities," Madurawe said.
"At the centre of Jamboree life are the 16 sub-camps, each hosting
two thousand Scouts from many different countries. This is where they
will live, work and relax together, sharing meals, building
understanding and making friends."

"Scouting brings together young people from every religion, ethnic
community and society. The Jamboree offers the chance to find out more
about Scouts' faith and to learn more about the beliefs of their new
friends from around the world.
The Jamboree just goes to show that peace is possible in the world;
it goes to show that people can live in harmony if they put their minds
to it; it's just like the whole world being in one village", Madurawe
further explained.
"Our Scouts can enjoy a non-stop day of activities and adventures at
Gilwell Park, the United Kingdom Home of Scouting. There is also a
chance to take part in sailing, rafting and canoeing and learn more
about water and environment activities.
"It will be a full day's activity, away from the Jamboree site. They
will also get an opportunity to learn new skills and try out a wide
variety of activities in the Energise Zones at the Jamboree site which
will excite, motivate and challenge them," he said.
