Bandara Weerasundara is a self taught artist who excels in the medium of
water colour, who is well versed in portraying his village life which he
grew up in so beautifully on paper that his pictures can capture the
attention of any lover of scenery without any doubt.
Painting to Prasanna came naturally since his childhood, who began
with brush and paint (water colours) at the tender age of 10 years,
while he was a little child still attending school.
But with time he grew into handling other mediums like pastel, oils
and ink
but water colour remained as the medium which he did well in. and he
seemed to handle the medium quite well. Prasanna who hails from
Malgammana in Pilimatalawa which is a town one passes through when one
travels to the hill capital Kandy.
So there is no argument about Prasanna's inspiration which has a
leading edge towards everything scenic and picturesque that surrounded
him as a kid and all throughout as a teenager.
Prasanna has not limited himself to painting sceneries alone, for he
has painted
murals
at hotels and also worked for interior decorators executing designs to
suite their requirements. He also has a talent at reproducing artifacts
and images of archaeological value and is a well versed copyist of
temple murals and other works of historical value.
Prasanna who has had many exhibitions to his credit is showing his
recent work at the Alliance Francaise in Kandy at present. A winner of
many awards both on a national and international level Prasanna has
included a mix of mediums at this exhibition of his.
His painstaking technique and breathtaking views captured skillfully
is well worth a peak if you are somebody who observes art as a lover of
it. The exhibition ends on the 14th of July.
