Sri Lanka under-19 pile up 329

CRICKET: Sri Lanka Under-19 batsmen gave a pleasing display of batting when they reached 329 all out in the last over of the day on the first day in their three day game against the touring Bangladesh Under-19 team at the Colts grounds, Havelock Park yesterday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat opener Lahiru Thirimanne (66) off 123 balls with 9 fours and Srimantha Wijeratne (31) gave a reasonable start putting on 44 runs for the first wicket in 15.1 overs. Thereafter Thirimanne with Ashan Priyanjana (61) added 110 for the second wicket off 144 balls. Priyanjana's innings contained 9 fours after facing 82 balls.

At one stage the Lankans were 248 for 5 with Nizam Mazahir (35) and Roshane Silva (27) engaging themselves in 63 run stand for the fifth wicket. Both Mazahir and Roshane Silva were out in quick succession, but the lower order of skipper Sachith Pathirana, Charith Jayampathy, Thisara Perera and Sameera Weerasinghe rallied around to take the score beyond the 300 run mark.

For the visitors skipper Mahmadul Hasan and Nasir Hossain took three wickets apiece.
