Singha cement to capture bigger chunk of local market

International Cement Traders (Pvt) Ltd. (ICT) markets its own brands of cement Singha and Italcementi, available in bulk as well as in 50 kilo bags which conform to international and national standards.

The newly appointed Managing Director of ICT, Colin Nelson, who served Lafarge Cement in Sri Lanka, Middle East, Europe and America , said he was confident of increasing ICT's market share .

The Italcementi Group which is a family owned company in Bergamo Italy, has operations in Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Thailand, India and North America.

Being a family owned company many of the family values are passed down and are part of the company's ethos.

As part of its plans to further consolidate its presence in the Mediterranean region, the Group increased its investments in Egypt in 2005 to become the leader in the cement sector with a market share in excess of 30%.

"We are the world's fifth largest producer of cement with operations in 19 countries and 62 Cement Plants worldwide," said Nelson, who added that the Group had 14 Grinding Centres, 575 Concrete Units, 147 raw material quarries and an annual production capacity of 70 million metric tonnes.

The organisation is based in Italy and is one of Italy's 10 largest industrial companies. The Italcementi Group is also a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and has signed the Cement Sustainability Initiative's Agenda for Action.

"The main focus of this agenda is to bind the cement industry leaders to an action plan aiming to satisfy present day-to-day needs, whilst safeguarding the requirements of future generations".
