A car driven at breakneck speed along the Old Kottawa road veered of
the road and rammed into a SLCTB bus at the entrance to the Udahamulle
SLTB depot road, Nugegoda, killing the driver and critically injuring
one passenger who was seated behind. The other passenger who was in the
front seat escaped without injuries, police said.
OIC Traffic Mirihana Police, Sub Inspector R.K. Ratnasinghe said the
accident had occurred around 3.45 a.m. on Saturday, while the car was
travelling from Nugegoda towards Maharagama. The deceased driver was
identified as Terrance Seneviratne (23) an employee of a private
company. The critically injured person was admitted to the National
Hospital Colombo.
Inspector Ratnasinghe said the Toyota vehicle was a complete wreck
with its hood ripped off following the accident. The impact was so
severe that a stationary SLCTB was shifted several feet away from where
it was parked. Speeding was the main reason for the accident, the OIC
said.
