Rs. 20 lakhs to develop Mahaweli grounds

A sum of Rs. 20 lakhs has been allocated to develop the Mahaweli Grounds in Embilipitiya, Minister of Youth Affairs Pavithra Wanniarachchi told a meeting at the Provincial Secretarial office.

The Minister said the 19th National Youth Athletic meet will be held on September 8 and 9. Over two-thousand-five-hundred athletes who qualified at Provincial and District Zonal level will compete in the meet.

The Minister said the track and sports pavilion will be constructed and water and electricity will be provided in the near future. National Youth Services Council Chairman Bhashwara Senanka Gunarathne, the Ministers Private Secretary, Kanchana Jayathilaka, Embilipitiya Mayor Padmini Weerasinghe and other officials were also present.
