Senok introduces latest range of Volkswagen cars

Senok Trade Combine Ltd., the sole agent for Volkswagen (VW) in Sri Lanka introduced the latest range of VW cars.

The new VW Polo, Golf, Jetta, Passat and Tounareg imported from Germany are available at the Senok VW showroom at Duplication Road, Colombo 3.

VW - The new Passat

Great care was taken to ensure safety in the new Passat - for instance the arrow shaped engine compartment lid with integral measures for pedestrian protection. The new Passat is a well thought-out car and attention was focused on every detail in the design. The Volkswagen warranty against corrosion covers twelve years.

Petrol engines

The engine range starts with a 4 cylinder 1.6 litre engine which has an output of 75KW (102 bhp) yet very low consumption of only 7.7 litres per 100 km.

The FSI with 85 KW (115 bhp) and a 6 speed manual gearbox is equally smooth running and even more powerful.

The petrol engine which offers the most dynamic driving experience is the 2.0 litre 110 KW (150 bhp) FSI.

Similar to the 85 KW engine, it has innovative direct injection technology by which fuel is injected into the combustion chamber under high pressure. The FSI engines of the new Passat therefore have not only very dynamic development of power but are also exceptionally economical.

Jeep 4x4s grabs three top slots in 4x4 Derby 2007

"Jeep 4x4s" created history by winning all the top three positions at the "4x4 Derby 2007" held in Hantana, Kandy recently.

The 4X4 Derby 07 which was organised by The Four Wheel Drive Club - Sri Lanka (FWDC) in association with The Hill Country Sport Shooting Club (HCSSC) and The Kandy Off Road Adventure Club was the first ever 4X4 event held in Kandy. This was also the second 4x4 track designed by the FWDC up in the hills beside the NEM track at Nuwara Eliya.

The track at a picturesque setting around the HCSSC 'Club House' had a grand view of the course. Competitors climbed one side of the Hantana Mountain and the track highlight was steep climbs in addition to the regular axle twisters and bunny hops.

Of the 21 entries, 14 competitors successfully completed all four Lanes of the Hill Climb (without a DNF - Did Not Finish) and qualified for the final round which was a timing run around the track including the most difficult Hill Climb (which many competitors failed to complete during the qualifying).

With the pre-warnings given regarding the track conditions, all competitors had checked their machines thoroughly including suspensions, brakes, clutch systems and all safety aspects even more than the regular events.

This was because a minor mishap would have rolled the vehicle approx 30-40 metres down the Hantana Mountains.

The following are the results

Winner Amal Wijeyeratne, Prashan Wijayanayake (co-driver), Jeep Wrangler (TJ), 1st Runner up, Prashan Wijayanayake, Amal Wijeyeratne (co-driver), Jeep Wrangler (YJ), 2 nd Runner up, Deepthi Perera, Shammi Wickremasinghe (co-driver), Jeep Wrangler (TJ).
