Security tightened during Kandy Esala Perahera

For the first time in the history of the Kandy Esala perahera Army, Navy and Air force personnel will be engaged in security duties during this year's Esala perahera.

According to Jegath Abeysirigunawardena, SSP Kandy division Army personnel will assist the police in checking visitors and vehicles at the police barriers and maintaining law and order in and around Kandy.

The Navy personnel will be engaged in security duties at the Kandy Lake, Peradeniya, Katugastota, Tennekumbura and Lewella bridges and Mahaveli River around Kandy.

The Air force personnel will be engaged in patrolling the air space in Kandy and its suburbs during the Esala perahera period.
