their safety and welfare, said Ceylinco Consolidated Chairman Dr. Lalith
Kotelawala.
He was addressing the launch of the first radiation treatment centre
by the Ceylinco Healthcare Ltd. in Colombo on Tuesday.
"The new venture is noteworthy for Sri Lanka because it takes
treatment of cancer to a new paradigm in our country", he said.
He said patients suffering from the dreadful disease should be
relieved restoring health and helping them to lead a productive life.
Ceylinco Healthcare Services Ltd. Deputy Chairman R. Renganathen said
the radiation centre will help save the drain of huge amounts of foreign
exchange and relieve people from the hassle of travelling abroad for
treatment.
The centre will help to make early detections which will save the
lives of many cancer patients", he said.
Associate Medical Director Washington Hospital Centre Dr. Lawrence
Lessin said the new radiation centre which is an outcome of a
brainstorming session will be a great benefit to all Sri Lankans.
"Cancer is a curable disease and with the development of radiation
therapy not only more cancer patients will be cured but it would also
enable them to lead a productive life," Dr. Lessin said.

the adverse effects of treatment and educate people on the techniques of
cancer treatment.
Over 11,000 new patients are diagnosed with cancer annually in the
country.
The radiation treatment unit is the country's first Linear
Accelerator, the international Gold Standard in delivery of accurate,
intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRI) for the treatment of
cancer.
