Assistance for fishermen

Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Felix Perera approved the allocation of Rs. 11 lakhs under the Fisheries Social Development to renovate the access road to Sinnapaduwa, Kandathudawa and Daluwa.

Steps will be taken to provide trawlers to fishermen who lost their livelihood due to the launch of Norochcholai power generation project.

It was decided to provide funds under the Coast Conservation Management Project to renovate the road network in Dungalpitiya, Raawella, Mahawella and Punchiwella. It was also decided to provide credit facilities for Madel fishermen to obtain fishing-gear from the Ceynor Institute.

These decisions were taken at the discussion held between All Ceylon Madel Owners Fisheries Cooperation Society and the Madel fishermen, under the patronage of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister.
