Keen competition should prevail at Senior and Junior Schools swim
meet

SWIMMING: There are 1,800 swimmers from 140 schools who will
swim at the Senior and Junior Schools Swimming Championships conducted
by the Sri Lanka schools Aquatic Sports Association from September 20 to
23 at the Sugathadasa Stadium pool commencing from 8.30 a.m. The meet is
sponsored by Milo.
Coming on to the swimming events, all swimmers who participated at
the 1st South Asia Swimming and Waterpolo Championships concluded in
Islamabad, Pakistan on September 9, will be seen in action and a very
high standard of swimming is on the offing.
According to Mrs. Chintha Ruwanpathirana, Secretary, SLSASA the meet
will be conducted for boys and girls in six age categories under-9,
under-11, under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-19. Normal events will
be worked and the heats will be in the morning session and the finals in
the evening session.
Diving will be worked off from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on September 22 and
23 and school authorities could submit the list of divers to participate
on August 20.
All age group winners will be selected (both boys and girls) and
trophies will be presented. There will be trophies on offer to the
overall Junior Boys and Girls Champions, Overall Senior Boys and Girls
Champions.
The best diver boys and girls will be selected on one and five-metre
spring board and platform diving. The boys and girls champions will also
be presented with trophies.
Besides all these trophies, there will be the Overall Boys and Girls
Championship Trophies.
Mrs. Pathirana said that no competitor will be allowed to swim or
dive until they submit their identity cards issued by the respective
schools.
"The SLSASA is compelled to implement this important rule to avoid
unnecessary involvements," added the Secretary. |
