A trip to India awaits best player

CHESS: The organisers of the Golden Square International Chess Association has organised a special award for the best player among the 50 players of the team winners to participate in an international chess rating tournament in India.

The Golden Square International Chess tournament (Western Province) from September 28 to 30 at Isipatana College, Colombo 5.

This tournament is a team tournament and there will be 10 categories as under 13, under 14, under 15, under 16 and under 18 for both boys and girls. All the players should be under their respective age groups before December 31 this year: Under 13 students born in 1995, under 14 born in 1994, under 15 born in 1993, under 16 born in 1992 and under 18 born in 1991 and 1990.

Teams consist of five players (no reserves). The school or club can send one or more teams (any number of teams) in each category.

But all those who are willing to participate in the tourney must register on or before September 26th 2007.

There are many trophies to be won - 10 in all as Golden Square Senior Trophies for those under 13, under 14, under 15, under 16 and under 18 for boys and girls.

There will be 50 gold medals, 50 silver medals and 50 bronze medals and board prizes too. All participants will be given a certificate of participation.

The first round will be from 2.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2nd round from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday 29th September, 3rd round from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday 29th September, 4th round from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday 30th September and 5th round from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday 30th September.
