President condemns bomb attack in Pakistan
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has condemned the bomb blasts in Pakistan
which have killed at least 130 persons and injured many more. In a press
release the President said.
My Government and I unequivocally condemn the brutal bomb attacks on
the motorcade in which former Prime Minister Ms. Benazir Bhutto was
travelling after her return to Pakistan.
Such attacks, targeting innocent civilians and political leaders, are
the cowardly acts of terrorism, which are becoming an increasing scourge
in the countries of the South Asian Region.
This attack with its great toll of human life attracts the strongest
denunciation as it has been carried out at a time when the people of
Pakistan are looking forward to general elections, for a peaceful and
orderly tradition of power, in keeping with the traditions of democracy.
As a neighbour of Pakistan that has suffered its own share of the
brutality of terrorism, we share with the Government and the people of
Pakistan our profound sorrow at the loss of life, and the suffering of
the families of those killed, as well as those injured, to whom we wish
speedy recovery. |
