Prices drop with tax abolition

With the abolition of tax on essential food items by the Ministry of Trade and Commerce for the forthcoming festive season, the food prices have dropped, the Chairman Pettah Traders Association A. Mohideen told the 'Sunday Observer'. He said the price of rice, onions, potatoes and dried chillies have been reduced.

The price of samba rice which was Rs. 50 has reduced to Rs. 40, potatoes from Rs. 60 to Rs. 40, Bonions from Rs. 70 to Rs. 40.00, red onions from Rs. 80 to Rs. 45, Chilies Rs. 190 to Rs. 140. The market prices of these commodities will be stable for sometime, he said.

He also said that stock of these items is sufficient for three months .
