Rex Foulstone-former BRC cricketer here on holiday

CRICKET: Rex Foulstone former Bendictine sportsman is back in town
after representing All-Australian cricket team at the over 60 cricket
tournament against England.
The over 60 cricket tournament matches were played in Sheffield,
Kent, Sussex and the Australian team came out victorious in the three
match series.
Foulstone represented St. Benedict's at cricket and soccer in a big
way and he has helped the college to achieve good wins in both
disciplines. He played for college in 1955 under Toto Abeydeera and in
1956 under Augustine Alles.
In cricket, he was a fine left handed bat and superb gully fieldsman.
In football, he was left-outer.
After leaving school, he played for Mutwal SC (one of the oldest
cricket clubs in the country) in the 'Daily News' Trophy.
He joined Nestle's and played cricket and football for the company
alongside Tom Deen, Andrew Fernando, Eric Perera, Dooland Buultjens,
James Perera, C. Marathalingam to name a few Nestle's soccer team also
played in the FA Cup against Sri Lanka Army and they became runners-up.
From 1958 to 1963 he represented BRC at cricket and played with Reid
brothers, Dr. Buddy and Claude, Bobby Schoorman, etc.
Foulstone toured Pakistan with the Ceylon team under Eric Perera for
the Agha Khan Trophy Tournament held in East Multan in 1961. Foulstone
was key player for his club Kotahena Rangers SC. He played with former
players in the calibre of Synoon, Somapla, Jaymon, Karunapala Fernando,
Issae Wenaden. Foulstone who was a very close friend of mine (stayed in
Mutwal) said that he yet plays at the YCWA Sunday Cricket Competition in
Melbourne.
Foulstone was in Sri Lanka last week from England and he goes back to
Australia on Monday. |
