Rumours help the LTTE

People who spread rumours give ideas to the LTTE to accomplish their targets, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told the Sunday Observer. There was a rumour last Friday, that ten civilians had been killed in Horton Plains and the person or party who did so is still at large, he said.

Today the country needs more support from civilians and if they get any kind of intelligence of such conspiracies, they should inform the nearest police station, army checkpoints or any other defence establishment, he said.

Safeguarding the nation is a national responsibility and spreading rumours is worthless. The theme 'Togetherness' should not only be restricted to the military and government but also to the rest of the country. Those who spread rumours will be severely punished, the Brigadier said.
