Haroon Mowjood's defiant unbeaten 57 saves Royal

CRICKET: Haroon Mowjood with a defiant unbeaten 57 saved Royal from certain defeat in their drawn school cricket match against St.Joseph's at Darley Road yesterday.

Royal going in for the second time with a deficit of 96 were in dire straits losing 7 for 59. Mowjood with the assistance of Kanishka Boteju (25) added 76 valuable runs for the 8th wicket. Yasith Abeykoon also struck a useful 17 not out to take Royal out of the woods.

Earlier the Joes who were 137 for 2 overnight reached 279 with overnight unbeaten batsmen Anton de Livera (86) and Hareen Silva (85) adding 163 runs for the third wicket.

Udara (102) helps Ananda to force a draw

CRICKET: Udara Peiris hit a splendid 102 with 14 boundaries to help Ananda College force a draw to their inter school cricket tournament match against Ananda College concluded at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

The Anandians who were trailing by 88 runs on the first innings produced an improved batting performance in their second attempt while scoring 256 for 7 with Udara Peiris leading the way.

Ananda: 99 and 256 for 7 decl (U. Peiris 102, M. Perera 59 n.o., S. Wijesuriya 27, P. Sampath 25, N. Ghani 4 for 51).

S. Thomas: 187 for 9 decl and 123 for 2 (J. Tahir 70 n.o., F. Saleem 32, M. Perera 2 for 21).

Kingswood beat Wesley

Kingswood College Kandy put up a fine all round performance to beat Wesley College outright by ten wickets in their inter school cricket tournament match concluded at Campbell Park yesterday.

Wesley: 166 and 181.

Kingswood: 328 for 9 decl and 20 for no loss.

Weerasekera (124) foils Nalanda

Gyashan Weerasekera hit a splendid 124 as D. S. Senanayake College forced a draw to their inter school cricket tournament match against Nalanda College concluded at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday.

Nalanda: 251 and 86 for 4 (S. Gamage 24 D. Samarakkody 2 for 33).

D. S. Senanayake: 310 (G. Weerasekera 124, I. Udana 61, H. Darshana 49, H. Udugamavithana 27, N. Karunanayake 7 for 44, A. Atapattu 2 for 62).

Cambrians held to a draw

CRICKET: Prince of Wales College had to be satisfied with first innings points in their drawn schools cricket match against St. Peter's at Moratuwa yesterday. The Peterites were all out for 205 in reply to Cambrians total of 305 for 9 declared, while in their second turn after being sent to follow on, the Peterites were 141 for 5 at close.

Prince of Wales: 305 for 9 declared.

St. Peter's: 205 (Suranga Rodrigo 39, Kushal Rodrigo 28, Akshu Fernando 30, Shivantha Kumara 4 for 33, Lahiru Sri Lakmal 2 for 34) and 141 for 5 at close (Shivanga Ranasuriya 33, Anuk Silva 26, Akshu Fernando not out 29, Suranga Rodrigo not out 21, Shivantha Kumara 2 for 12).
