ebanklanka to link CB, commercial banks and govt bodies

Malitha Jayawardane

Dilan Sanjeewa

ebanklanka is a virtual banking solution to be introduced by Intermax Solution where all the commercial banks in the country as well as the Central Bank and the government institutions will be linked online.

"We started developing the trilingual website in September last year and completed it early January," said CEO Intermax Solutions, Dilan Sanjeewa. He said Internet Banking is the modern trend in banking which enables the customers to engage in all types of transactions through the net be it balance inquiry, fund transferring, utility payments or opening new accounts.

The Central Bank and the Bankers' Association is guiding the project.

In our country too there are local and foreign banks who have introduced Internet Banking services to their customers but just a handful of customers are benefited by them as most customers are not aware of the benefits.

The mission of Intermax Solution (Pvt) Ltd is to function as a medium to enlighten the Sri Lankans on Internet Banking and modern economic and social trends. This website ebanklanka will outline the history, the functions and the services of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. This will further educate the people about the Fiscal policy of the country, orders and regulations issued to the public by the Central Bank and also about the treasury bills.

Web pages

In addition the website will provide details of the history and activities of the Bankers' Association of Sri Lanka while special web pages are reserved for all commercial banks registered with the Bankers' Association of Sri Lanka. These web pages are designed, developed and uploaded by specially trained technicians. The web pages are designed to present the history, services and other information about each bank to the customers. We will request each bank to appoint a coordinator to provide the respective data and details to be published in this web page.

These web pages will enable the users to have a quick search on Commercial Banks through their net program.

The personal e-mail service is one of our valuable services we hope to start to support the commercial banks.

To the e-mail address of each member of our website is provided with weekly e-mail reports of the Commercial Banks. We take the responsibility of designing these e-mail reports under the guidance and instructions of the respective banks.

The website will present data and other information about the State Economic Policies implemented by the government such as Central Bank report, Share Market report, Consumers' price list and Budget reviews.

The website will act as a window to allow its users to present their problems in banking, e-Commerce and also about the services of the commercial banks. Their problems are discussed, provided data analysis and other information by the specialists in the respective fields.

Different products

The website is developed and maintained round the clock under the supervision of two specially trained technicians.

As this website also acts as a mass media a special media will be formed for live and regular coverage. Membership is open to all Commercial Banks registered in the Bankers' Association of Sri Lanka.

We expect to advertise the different kinds of products such as Savings Accounts, Current Accounts, Fixed Deposits, Leasing, Housing Loans, Personal Loans and Business Loans presented and maintained by the commercial banks respecting their individual identities through the Internet.

Similarly, every user registered with the website is provided with information about the Bank's through e-mail.

This enables them to get information not only about their banks but also about the other banks functioning in the country.

Modern trends

In addition the website has provision for local and foreign investors to get information about Treasury Bills issued by the government. Intermax will keep contact with international institutions such as J. P. Morgan.

He said, "We are planning to keep contact with the government and the private sector to provide information to the investors on modern trends in investments in Sri Lanka through the website. For this we have already made contact with the BOI and the Ministry of Finance.

The Intermax solution has taken steps to provide further information about Commerce subjects to University students and the students in other institutions through their website. It will also help them to select their banks according to their choice to deposit their savings.

He said accordingly we have planned an e-society website where we form IT societies known as Ecom societies in schools to improve the IT knowledge.

In addition we also give them an idea about the ebanklanka website.

As we are supporting the schools in rural areas we will provide 10 computers to schools who don't have them or if the school has computers we will provide the internet connection through SLT or Dialog.

He said member students who are not selected to the University will be supported by Intermax Solutions to forward a project proposal using the resources of the area.

The project proposal is then forwarded to the bank and if successful they get the loan where they can start a business venture.

To be eligible for this project you have to be a member of the Ecom Society, said Marketing and Project Manager Malitha Jayawardane. This is one of our social responsibility projects.

Speaking of the history of the project Jayawardane said that there are no online banking websites in Sri Lanka where you can access and get all the information about banking which is a big hindrance in this technology age.

He said that as his university project related to banking he had to visit several websites to get the information. Therefore, he together with his friend, Dilan Sanjeewa and developed this project for the benefit of the people of Sri Lanka as well as overseas who need financial information.

At present we have five developers who are dedicated and work without a salary to make this project a success, he said.
