High security for polls

A contingent of over 6,400 Police and Armed Force personnel will be
deployed to maintain high security at the Local Government Elections in
the Batticaloa district tomorrow.
DIG (Elections) H. M. D. Herath told the Sunday Observer that 1,800
police officers have already been summoned from the outstations in
addition to those in Batticaloa to provide security to all 831
candidates contesting the election. He said each candidate will be
provided with two police officers and five officers will provide
security at each polling station.
"In addition, tight security will be provided in the vicinity of all
285 polling stations and over 600 roadblocks have been erected to enable
voters to cast their vote without any obstacle. |
