
Developing Seruwila sacred area
The Government with assistance from UNESCO has allocated funds worth
over Rs. 100 million to develop the Seruwila sacred area, which has been
declared a World Heritage Site.
An official ceremony was held at the premises recently to declare
Seruwila a World Heritage Site. This ceremony was also held to initiate
construction work on the museum belonging to the Seruwila Raja Maha
Vihara, an access road from Seruwila to Somawathiya and a new retiring
hall at the temple premises.
The project would be jointly sponsored by the Government and UNESCO.
Financial assistance towards the construction of the museum would be
extended by the Bank of Ceylon and Tourism Ministry. The Tourism
Ministry will lend a hand towards the construction of the retiring hall,
while the Mahaweli Authority and Highways Ministry will assist the
construction of the access road.
More fun at Leisure World
School holidays are coming closer and it's time to have fun. When you
think of a place to visit to have fun, one of the places that would come
to your mind would be Leisure World, because it has won the hearts of
many children around the country.
On March 27, it is celebrating the second anniversary. A lot more
interesting features have been added to this place but before telling
you about these new additions, let us tell you something about the place
and the games already there for children, since not all of you would
have visited Leisure World.

It is a theme park consisting of a variety of amusement and water
related activities. Swing Around, Crescent Swing, UFO, Super Swinger,
Happy Express, Space Ship, Junior Coaster and Pirate Ship are
categorised as amusement activities.
Log Flume is one of the activities which is classed as an amusement
and water related activity. Other water related activities in the theme
park include activities like Wave Pool, Kids Activity Pool, Lazy River,
Octopus, Multilane, Thunder Cruise and Crazy Cruise. They also have boat
rides like bumper boats, paddle boats and speed boats.
Alright, now let's take a look at the new additions they will
introduce in order to make the experience at theme park great for all
the people who visit the place.
During the month of April when everyone is in a festive mood, Leisure
World is going to offer you more excitement. They are opening up a game
arcade with over 20 different games ranging from car racing, motor cycle
racing to action and fun. The games available will be displayed on 29"
to 50" LCD screens.
It can be experienced and tried by both the young an the old. So,
this holiday you're going to have a whole new experience at Leisure
World and we are sure that you are going to have great fun.
This is not all. In June, on World Environmental Day (June 5) they
are going to inaugurate the Tropical Rainforest they have built.
This is planted with around 50 species at what is in existence at
Sinharaja Forest. This forest is created in an area of six acres in
extent with the intention of educating and inculcating in the people,
especially the children, the value of planting flora.
So, while you are having fun, you can also develop your knowledge
about the flora. In August they will also be introducing the latest type
of bumper cars to Sri Lanka. They also hope to introduce the sky walker
amusement activity. Also, going by the visitors' requests, they are
planning to keep the Leisure World open until 9 p.m. during the season,
so, the year ahead is certainly going to be fun, fun and more fun!
