Flyover at Peliyagoda - a new world record:
The construction of the Kelaniya Railway Crossing
North Flyover which was commenced on and scheduled to complete by
March 25, 2008 is an ample demonstration of the capabilities of Sri
Lankan engineers and the local construction consortiums which are
now par with their counter parts in developed countries. The Flyover
with 320 metres in length and 8.85 in width is nearly completed
qualifying it to be the fastest built Flyover in the world.

adventure - the defeat of the Portuguese at Gannoruva
28th March 2008, marks the uncommemorated but
370th anniversary of Sri Lanka's most heroic and last battle ever
fought by the valiant armies of King Rajasingha II, which reminds us
the triumphal proceedings of the famous Gannoruva battle of 1638 AC.
This battle not only saved the nation from being permanently annexed
to Portugal, but also proved the superior prowess of the Sinhalese

Buddha's first visit to Kimbulwathpura
Medin Full Moon Poya day fell on March 21:
The month of Medin is important in that context
as it was on a Medin Full Moon poya day the Buddha started his
journey to Kimbulwathpura to preach to his father and the Sakya clan
on the invitation of minister Kaludai. Also Medin Full Moon Poya day
marks the peak of the Sri Pada pilgrim season which normally begins
with Unduwap poya in December.
