Fernandopulle, Weerasinghe in the lead
St.Joseph's College captain Ruwantha Fernandopulle and Kegalu MV
skipper R.A. Weerasinghe took impressive early leads after the first
round of voting in the 30th Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the
Year most popular contests.
Fernandopulle polled 1,714 votes to take a good early lead in the
Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year All-Island contest while
Weerasinghe heads the Outstation segment of the same.
The Sunday Observer and SLT Mobitel would pick six lucky winners
among the readers who vote for their favourite schoolboy cricketers to
give away attractive prizes. There will be cash prizes of Rs. 2,500,
1,500 and 1,000 every week.
This will be in addition to the three gift packs, SMART SIM and
reload cards presented by the sponsors - Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel. See
Page 20 for more on the latest developments of the 30th Observer-Mobitel
Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contest, including the names of lucky
readers who won awards.
There will also be a special article by veteran sports writer, A. C.
De Silva, who goes down memory lane to describe the birth of the
'original show' in 1979 in which former Sri Lanka Test captain and
present ICC Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle won the title as a budding
schoolboy cricketer from Royal College.
The Sunday Observer readers would be in an advantageous position as
they get two votes, including a bonus vote, per each coupon. |
