Can Richmond catch up with Mahinda this year?
CRICKET: The 103rd Mahinda - Richmond big inter-school cricket
match of the South, will be played on March 28 and 29 at the Galle
International Stadium. Play starts at 10 a.m. on the first day and 9
a.m. on the second day. Of the matches played so far in the series,
Mahinda is ahead with 22 wins while Richmond is one behind with 21
victories. The question at hand: Can Richmond beat Mahinda this year and
make the scores equal?
Mahinda's last win was recorded in 1978 when Dulip de Silva led the
side, while Richmond last won way back in 1969 when the team was
captained by P. Jayawardhana. The highest individual score in the series
is 162 by P.H.K. Ranasinghe of Mahinda in 1972, but in the same year,
Richmond's Prasad Kariyawasam also did well to make a score of 153.
The best bowling feat in the series was 10 wickets for 44 runs by
Somairi Ambawatte of Mahinda in 1953. Richmond's R.M.M. de Silva took 8
for 19.
The highest total was by Mahinda when they got 359 in 1972.
