Mallika Wanigasundera dies

The death occurred yesterday of veteran journalist Mallika Wanigasundera, a former features editor of the Daily News.

Wanigasundera who joined Lake House in 1956 served on the Daily News, the Sunday and the Evening Observer and became Features Editor in 1981.

She wrote in-depth feature articles and news articles on politics, economics, development and film and drama reviews.

She was among the handful of women journalists who rose to top positions in local journalism at that time.

Even after retirement from Lake House, she contributed to Lake House publications and other English newspapers.
