Junior novices at STC

TENNIS: The University of Moratuwa in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education will organise the second annual junior novices tennis tournament to be held from April 16 to 18 at S. Thomas College courts, Mt. Lavinia. The matches will begin at 7.30 a.m. on all three days.

Funding the coaching programme of the University tennis team is the main objective of organising the tournament according to Niren Neydorff one of the committee members. Last year we managed to successfully launch this venture for the first time in the history of University of Moratuwa and were able to boost the standards of nearly 200 promising tennis players between ages of 7 to 13 years. The tournament will be only a single competition for both boys and girls under the categories of under-8, under-10, under-12 and under-14.

This event will no doubt bring about many new faces into Sri Lanka tennis and hope that it would compel more enthusiasm towards the game, added Niren.

Sri Lanka Tennis Association is supporting the University of Moratuwa to make this event a success. Sampath Bank has come forward to sponsor the tournament.

The winners will be presented trophies, gifts and certificates. Entries will close on April 11 with the Organising Secretary, University of Moratuwa.
